On Friday, 19th June, a group of our talented Year 8 students enjoyed a high-octane day of digital discovery at the MEGA Day event. These students had all achieved an outstanding score of 80% or higher across all of their recent IT assessments.
The day was packed with advanced, hands-on challenges designed to test our students’ technical skills, creativity, and resilience.
During the Build It: LEGO Robotics session, teams built and programmed a LEGO Spike PRIME robot. This challenge gave them a taste of real-world robotics engineering, requiring immense precision, iterative thinking, and logical problem-solving.
The excitement continued with the Imagine It: AI Prompt Battle. In this event, teams competed to generate AI images in Midjourney that matched a reference as closely as possible. It was a brilliant exercise that proved clear communication with artificial intelligence is a genuine, highly sought-after skill in modern industry.
The grand finale of the day was the Beat It: Cyber Calendar Challenge. This timed cybersecurity competition mirrored the exact contests global employers use to spot top-tier tech talent. We are absolutely thrilled to report that one of our very own St Mary’s student groups won a medal in this event for solving the highest number of complex challenges correctly under pressure.
We are incredibly impressed with all the Year 8 students who took part in this event. They demonstrated outstanding teamwork, grit, and forward-thinking capability, representing our academy brilliantly. Huge congratulations to our medal winners and well done to all the participants!
