St Mary’s Year 11 students are celebrating success in their GCSEs at the Catholic Academy this year. Results were pleasing in many areas, with strong performances in English, supported by solid results in Science and RE as well as excellent performances in Art and Modern Foreign Languages.

Headteacher, Mr Simon Eccles explains, “I am pleased for our students. They have faced significant disruption to their secondary education due to the impacts of COVID for two of their secondary years. In spite of this they have worked hard this year. Students faced many challenges during the pandemic and they should be proud of their achievements today. We are looking forward to welcoming many of them back in Year 12.”

A group of 18 high fliers achieved an incredible 139 GCSE Grade 7-9 or BTEC Distinctions or Distinction * between them. Pictured from the group are Julia who was “Feeling good and proud. St Mary’s has been great!” along with Theresa who said “It doesn’t feel real, I have really enjoyed my 5 years here. It has helped me greatly for my future.” Joining them in praising the school were Rico, Lucy and Gabriel. A delighted Rico said “St Mary’s really helped me in many ways. The teachers have really supported me and allowed me to fulfill my dreams,” Lucy added: “ I feel so accomplished. I have loved all my teachers and cannot wait to attend St Mary’s Sixth Form” a view further supported by Gabriel who said: “I am feeling good, I’m excited about coming to St Mary’s, St Mary’s was a very good place for my education!” Also pictured from the group are Alfie, Grace, Monika and Victoria. An emotional Victoria was “ Feeling very shaky! Thank you to Mrs Parry and Mr Faulkner for helping me get my English and Maths and for supporting me!” Monika was proud of her two years’ work adding “It feels like 2 years of my hard work is worth it, the teachers and this school are the reason I will stay at St Mary’s for sixth form.” A view shared by Grace who added “I am feeling really happy. The teachers have been so supportive which has made me want to attend St Mary’s sixth form.” and Alfy who said “I am feeling great. A highlight of St Mary’s have been the teachers. They have been so supportive.” Finally McKenzie and Jill were delighted with their results. Jill was pleased saying: “I was so scared but I’m happy with my results.
