Science Week: Competition Results and Winners

Four secondary school students at St. Mary's Catholic Academy stand proudly in front of a green wall and a "STEM Club" display board. Each student is wearing a smart black blazer and school uniform while holding up a colourful, hand-drawn science poster and a merit certificate. The posters show detailed diagrams of subjects like the human heart and plant biology. The students are smiling, celebrating their achievements in the Science Poster Competition.

Building upon the excitement of the week’s various hands-on experiments and taster sessions, the competitive spirit of British Science Week was felt across every year group. Two of the most anticipated elements of the week were the daily Form Tutor notices challenges and the creative Science Poster Competition.

The Form Tutor notices competition required a collective effort from every student during morning registration. These daily riddles and scientific questions, curated by our STEM ambassadors, were designed to spark curiosity and encourage teamwork within the forms. After a week of
intense competition and high-quality responses, we are delighted to announce the winning forms for each year group. Congratulations go to 7L, 7N, 8E, 8I, 8O, 9I, 10C, and 11E.

In addition to the form challenges, many students spent their own time developing entries for the Science Poster Competition. The task was to create an engaging and creative visual representation of this year’s theme, Curiosity. While the standard of work across the academy was exceptionally high, four students stood out for their particularly imaginative and detailed designs. We are proud to name Anna (8O), Chiamaka (8O), Stephania (8N), and Ejeh (7R) as our overall winners.

Well done to all the winning forms and individuals for their commitment to scientific enquiry throughout the week. These results conclude our celebrations for this year, and we look forward to seeing how our students continue to apply this level of curiosity to their studies in the coming term.
