Record-Breaking Success for Year 7 Athletes

A group portrait of the Year 7 boys and girls athletics team from St Mary's Catholic Academy. The sixteen students are posing together in two rows, some kneeling and others standing, wearing matching navy blue, red, and white school sports kits. They are gathered in an outdoor undercover area next to a yellow-edged concrete step.

Last Thursday, 18th June, a talented group of our Year 7 boys and girls represented the school at the Super 8s Athletics Championships at Stanley Park. Competing against schools from across Blackpool, our pupils demonstrated both exceptional athletic ability and an outstanding attitude
throughout the day.

The academy achieved some truly remarkable results during the competition, including several record-breaking performances. Jessica won the 200m Heat A with a brilliant sprint. On the field, Nathaniel claimed victory in the boys’ long jump with an impressive leap of 3.90 metres. Jenson won the boys’ javelin with a superb throw of 26.4 metres, setting a brand-new games record. Emmanuel also dominated, winning the 800m and setting another games record with a phenomenal time of 2 minutes and 31 seconds.

To cap off an incredible day of sport, the boys’ 4x100m relay team, consisting of Emmanuel, Jenson, Oskar, and Nathaniel, stormed to victory. They took first place, and set a new games record with a time of 57 seconds.

Congratulations to all the pupils who took part for their hard work, dedication, and exemplary sportsmanship. You have left St Mary’s incredibly inspired.
