Our talented students have been diving deep into their creativity recently, combining powerful environmental messages with stunning artistic skill. Over the last few weeks, Year 8 students have been working diligently on an art project designed to increase awareness of ocean pollution and the devastating impact of plastic waste on marine environments. Alongside this, several Year 9 students chose to focus their “Natural Forms”
coursework on the beautiful theme of “Creatures of the Ocean.”
Recognising the incredible quality of the work being produced, the Art Department seized a fantastic opportunity to enter our students into a prestigious competition promoted by Blackpool’s very own Sea Life Centre. Run in collaboration with the Sea Life Trust, this competition aims to encourage young creativity while raising vital awareness for marine conservation.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that five of our students have had their work selected as finalists to represent St Mary’s Catholic Academy. Huge congratulations go to Diya in Year 8, as well as Millie, Becca, Jessica, and Olivia in Year 9.
This is a wonderful achievement, and we extend our congratulations to these talented individuals, as well as to the dedicated art staff who have nurtured and encouraged their creativity throughout this project.
The anticipation is now building, as the Sea Life Centre will be announcing the overall winning entries by Monday 22nd June. We wish all five of our finalists the very best of luck, you have already made the academy incredibly proud.
