Course Description

French is the official language in 29 countries around the world and an official language of major world organisations such as the United Nations, NATO and the European Union and Council. France, our closest neighbour, has the second largest economy in Europe, is the European leader in aerospace engineering and is the world’s most-visited country. The GCSE French course builds on your previous learning to develop communication and literacy skills. You will develop your understanding, speaking and writing through a range of topics such as lifestyle, leisure, your home, the environment, work and your education. Learning a language also helps you to understand different cultures and many universities look favourably on those who have studied a language.

Future Opportunities

Studying a language improves your employability, especially as the UK is currently experiencing a worrying lack of employees with foreign-language skills. People with foreignlanguage skills usually earn more too. A language qualification opens up more career opportunities such as working for a multi-national company or even abroad in international business, law, management, marketing, publishing, journalism or within the travel & tourism or armed forces sectors.
