Year 8 continue to break new ground - winning the regional indoor cricket finals at Stanley Park and thus qualifying for the county finals for the first time ever! They won all three games comprehensively and now play the top seven schools in the county at Bolton Indoor arena later this month.
The first game was against BRGS where captain Dylan Henshall lost the toss and St Mary’s were asked to bat. Despite a slow start they managed a respectable total of 57 with Henshall undefeated on 30. A very tight bowling and fielding display limited the opposition to just 30. Waterhouse and M Joseph bowling well and Pachecco and Herbert outstanding in the field.
The second game was against Pendle Vale and after winning the toss St Mary’s bowled them out for just 22. Powell stopped everything behind the stumps and B Joseph bowled with increasing confidence. St Mary’s comfortably passed their score and posted a total of 60. Henshall again top scored undefeated on 28 with able assistance from Clacher.
A win or even a small defeat would have seen the team through to the finals but confidence was sky high and a clean sweep was their only goal. Despite losing the toss and getting their lowest score of the tournament (43 ) defeat was out of the question and they bowled Archbishop Temple out for 15. B Joseph outstanding. Henshall was voted man of the tournament.
Well done to – D Henshall, J Waterhouse, J Clacher, M Joseph, B Joseph, K Pachecco, R Powell and F Herbert.
