Year 11 Prom

Once again students at St Mary’s excelled themselves at the Annual College Prom at Garstang’s Crofter’ Hotel. About 130 Year 11 students and 30 staff celebrated the leaving of the Year 11 students as they go on study leave in anticipation of their GCSE examinations. The students were picked up from College on Thursday evening and taken by coach to Crofters’ where they enjoyed dinner followed by dancing late into the night. The students attending looked magnificent in their ball gowns, dress suits and in one case a Royal navy uniform. It was a great occasion for everybody, especially the staff who all feel privileged to have worked alongside such splendid young people over the last five years.
The students are in College today for the Leavers’ Mass celebrated by Father Bernard and a Final Assembly and we wish them Good Luck in the examinations over the next few weeks.  Visit the Gallery for photos from the Year 11 Prom evening.

Years 9 & 10 Coursework

Mr Preston sitting his eleven plus exams
GCSE coursework is now well underway for year 10 in most subjects.  Some subjects aim to complete coursework altogether in Year 10, others to complete certain sections.  To help students stay on target  we have arranged several coursework days during next half term.  It is most important that students attend on these days and that the make the most of this time.  The dates are as follows:

Wednesday 7 June: Option C
Friday 9 June: English
Monday 12 June: Science
Wednesday 14 June: Option B
Tuesday 20 June: Option A
Friday 23 June: Maths
Coursework days for Year 9:

On Monday 5 June and Monday 12 June there will be intensive coursework days for year 9.  One day will be spent on ICT coursework for the GCSE exam to be taken next year, the other day will be used to get a head start on GCSE coursework in English.  Attendance on both these days is crucial!

Year 13 Ecology Trip

On Friday 12th May 2006, a group of Year 13 Biology students went on an ecological sampling trip to Longridge Fell. During the day they performed sampling tasks such as quadratting, soil sampling, soil temperature, wind speed, soil pH, rock depth and collecting critters.  Check out the gallery for more images.

Year 10 Castlerigg Manor Retreat

ImageOn May 2nd 2006, a group of Year 10 students went to Castlerigg Manor on our annual retreat.  The purpose of the visit was to help them to explore their relationship with God and the world around them.

Reflective time spent in the chapel, both praying quietly and singing loudly, was at the heart of this special visit.

Over the 4 day visit the students took part in a variety of activities, including fell-walking in glorious sunshine, team-building exercises and even a limbo competition.  Other highlights included a lovely barbeque and of course Mr. Conway's song and dance routine!
