Race For Life - St. Mary's Girls 2006

Race for LifeThe excitement, the anticipation and trepidation of what lay ahead….and then the hooter sounded for ‘GO’. 40 St. Mary’s girls and staff were off on what was about to be an emotional yet very rewarding challenge in the ‘Race for Life.’
And that’s just what it was as we ran our way over 5km through 2 and a half thousand others all with the same purpose – to reach the end, but more importantly, earn their sponsorship targets to be donated to Cancer Research. It was only when we started running that the initial excitement and gusto dwindled and the reality of a long hard sweat running 3 miles set in. Add to that a temperature of 23 degrees and the noise had most definitely died down! As we ran, we were relentlessly reminded of why we were running in such hot weather – the names ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ appeared all too often on the backs of those who were running and I was astounded that almost all the runners were displaying names of loved ones past and present for whom they were thinking of.
The St Mary's Girls RunnersNeedless to say, the girls from St. Mary’s performed brilliantly mostly completing the race in less than 40 minutes AND with smiles all round! It is estimated that the girls will have raised over 1000 pounds for Cancer Research. (Watch this space!) Cancer has and will in the future touch so many of our lives, your sponsorship would be much appreciated if you haven’t already done so. Many Thanks and well done all the St. Mary’s girls! Year 6 Students enjoying taster dayYear 6 came into College today for their first taste of what life will be like for them when they join us full time in September. The pupils took part in a number of different activities but started the day in a special way by having a liturgy in the College Chapel with our lay chaplains and the Year 8 Active Group. Activities in class included -

1) ICT - Webquest - how to search for Key words in Search Engines

5) Maths - Naming and ordering angles

In the afternoon the pupils met their form tutor and had an introduction session on what life will be life for them in September. The pupils enjoyed their day thoroughly – see the pictures in the gallery
