Abbot Hall Retreat

Abbot Hall Group PhotoAt the start of July, Mrs. Jones realised one of her dreams as she, Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Williamson accompanied a group of sixth formers on a three day retreat to Abbot Hall, Grange over Sands. Based on a spiritual theme, the trip offered peace, tranquillity and a time for quiet reflection, carefully balanced with fun, games and general merriment.

Over the three days, new friendships were formed and existing friendships strengthened as the entire group bonded through activities such as water polo, rounders, baking bread and an artwork workshop to produce the fabulous Yellow Brick Road and Emerald Vatican City (see gallery). Of course, the beautiful countryside did not go unnoticed either, with highly enjoyable treks through the fields, hills and sheep around Grange, and even a liturgy in the park. And despite the incredibly busy schedule, we still managed to find the time to watch Aisleyne rejoining the Big Brother house!

Huge thanks are due to Mrs. Jones for her efforts in organising this fantastic mini-break, and to Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Williamson for their help. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and refreshing experience, and a good time was had by all.

New Addition to PE Kit

Miss Porter's modelling career takes off From September 2006 the College has added a tracksuit to the Physical Education Kit list.  The tracksuit will be purely optional and will consist of a rain jacket and a pair of rain pants as modelled in the photo by Miss Porter.  The St. Mary's crest will be embroidered on the rain pants and jacket.

During the winter months participation levels can drop in PE having a negative effect on the progress of our students.  The lack of participation may be a direct effect of the cold temperatures the students experience whilst taking part in their PE lessons.  In a bid to combat this we feel the introduction of the new tracksuit will encourage students to take part in their lessons.

The tracksuit will be available only from St. Mary's.  An order will be placed over the summer.  The cost of the tracksuit will be £35.  This additional piece of kit is of the highest quality, making the tracksuit wonderful value for money.

May I reinforce that the tracksuit is purely optional.  However, the PE department would recommend the purchase of the tracksuit in order to tackle our ever changing climate.
If you would like to order a tracksuit for your child please send your cash/cheque in an envelope, clearly marked with your child's name, form and the size required, to the College office for the attention of Mrs. A. Whiteside.  If paying by cheque please make it payable to St. Mary's Catholic College.  For more information please click Read More below.  For more photos of the tracksuit please visit the Gallery.
