Extra Curricular ICT

ImageA group of year 8’s have been coming after school to make a video using digital cameras and editing software. One group made a video about football and the other made a ghost story. All the pupils were involved in filming, editing and acting in the movies. A big thank you to Ms Blacow who helped with the group.

We hope to run the sessions again next year, if you are interested give your name to one of the technicians in the ICT office.

The Gallery will be uploaded soon!

It's going to be HOT!

ImageDue to the very high temperatures students will be allowed to wear either normal uniform without ties and blazers or their school PE kit for the rest of this term. (Please note no other alternative sporting items should be worn - we need to be able to recognise our students at a glance!)  It is advisable for students to bring in water to drink during the day.  With these simple measures in place I hope we will be able to avoid closing the College due to the very hot weather.  We will keep this matter under review to ensure staff and students remain healthy and safe.  Mr. S. Tierney.

Industry Day - 17th July 2006

Students taking part in the group activity during Industry DayOn Monday 17th July all Year 10 students took part in an Industry Day.  The aim of the day was to challenge our students on four different levels of working.  Firstly on an individual level producing a newspaper article to a deadline.  The second was working with one other person to solve a series of problems.  The third was based on a team of 10 or more to complete exercises all together.  The fourth challenge was to produce a jacket from 4 sheets of sugar paper, 2 sheets of foil, 1 roll of sellotape and a pair of scissors. First the students had to undergo an 'interview' for one of four jobs, designer, model, commentator and technician.  They then had to make a jacket in 1 hour, followed by a fashion show in front of the year group.  We were grateful for the help of 20 advisors from various industries who acted as interviewers and then group assessors.

Blackpool Maths Challenge

Blackpool Maths ChallengeYear 7 pupils, Austin France, Lucia Rojek, Nicole Burke and Katie Dzuibinska recently took part in the Blackpool Maths Challenge.  They made tremendous effort and finished runners up in a very closely fought competition at Montgomery High School.  All pupils who took part had to work collectively against the clock to solve complex mathematical problems, build shapes and use skills of observation and communication.
