Student Success in Blackpool Music Service Competitions
Every year, Blackpool Music Service run two competitions for all primary and secondary schools in Blackpool - 'Pop Idol' for vocalists and 'Musician of the Year' for instrumentalists.
This year, the competitions could not take place in the usual format because of lock down so the music service ran the competitions virtually. Students were asked to send in videos of their performances during lock down (with parental consent). St Mary’s had three entrants - Grace Johny, Beatrice Davis and Charisse Villarino. The competitions were judged by Hayley Kay and Tracey Daniel.
We are extremely pleased to announce that all three students did incredibly well!
Beatrice Davis in Year 10 came 2nd in the Key Stage 4 Pop Idol competition with her beautiful rendition of the song ‘All I Want’ by Kodaline. She sang with real emotion and demonstrated her excellent performance skills.
Grace Johny in Year 8 came 1st in the Key Stage 3 Musician of the Year competition playing the piece Solitaire on the flute. Grace produced a very confident performance and demonstrated her superb ability on the flute.
Finally, Charisse Villarino came 1st in the Key Stage 4 Musician of the Year competition. Charisse played Debussy’s Clair de Lune on the piano and impressed with her incredible musicianship, showing a real involvement in the music.
The Blackpool Gazette have published an article about the competition which you can read here - https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/people/talented-young-singers-and-musicians-do-blackpool-proud-annual-pop-idol-event-2914551
I'm sure you'll agree that this is an amazing achievement and it is extremely encouraging to see our students achieving great things even during a global pandemic! Beatrice, Grace and Charisse should be very proud of their successful results. Well done!
