School Uniform and PE Kit Changes from 2018

Dear parents / guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of a number of changes to our school uniform and PE kit from September 2018. The information below details the changes from our current Guidance for Parents document which can be found on the school’s website. Any changes appear in bold text.  The new Uniform and Appearance document can be found here.

Please can I ask you to take particular attention of the highlighted sections. From September 2018 all pupils will be required to wear traditional black ‘leather’ shoes. We greatly appreciate the support of our parents in ensuring that pupils no longer purchase black shoes based on trainer styles.

I ask that parents also consider the 6 week summer break as a suitable period for any piercings to heal and be consistent with the information highlighted below.

Changes to the PE Kit from September 2018 for Year 7 and for all pupils from September 2019

Following extensive consultation with parents, pupils and school directors the PE kit will be updated from September 2018. Initially the new kit will be mandatory for all Year 7 pupils.

Pupils in other years who wish to purchase the new kit or replace items may do so.

Pupils in Years 7-11 may therefore continue to use their original kit throughout the new school year. Pupils wishing to wear additional outdoor items other than the blue shorts / red tops must purchase these from the new kit list.

From September 2019 all pupils will be required to wear the new PE kit available from Ragamuffins and Bispham clothing as usual.

The new kit has been designed to provide options for pupils to ensure their comfort and performance in a range of weathers and sporting activities.

Blazers must be worn at all times (Years 7-10). Only Academy uniform may be worn under the blazer. Students are only allowed to remove blazers in class with permission of their teacher. Year 11 students may wear an Academy jumper which is available only through the school office. A grey badged sweater with college trim is an optional item for Years 7 – 10.

All students must bring a bag to school. Bags need to be strong and large enough to hold A4 folders and PE kit. Many students may also choose to carry their Chromebook in their bag and specific compartments in some bag styles provide additional protection for this.

Coats may not be worn inside the Academy building. No denim jackets/coats, `hoodies’ or sweatshirts.

Shirts must be tucked in, plain white and have no motifs. Year 7 – 10 must wear the Academy clip on tie available from Bispham clothing or Ragamuffins. Year 11 may wear the black St Mary’s tie available from the school office. A summer blouse will no longer be part of the school uniform.

No makeup, No fake tan, No false nails or false eyelashes, No nail varnish, No tattoos. No visible piercings including piercings in the tongue, nose or mouth. Pupils that plan to have piercings must do so during holiday periods to allow for a suitable recovery time before the return to school. Pupils should not return to school with visible piercings that cannot yet be removed due to healing. Pupils will be asked to remove these items or to remain at home until they fulfil these requirements.

Students may only have one natural hair colour. No excessive styles, shaved heads, shave lines, steps, or obvious graduations. As a general guide a “Number 2” is the shortest permissible cut. Parental support is appreciated in ensuring that pupils do not arrive at school with hair styles that do not conform to the “spirit” of our Academy policy. No coloured hair braids/hair jewellery/hair extensions. A plain bobble or headband. No bows or coloured headbands. Students are not allowed to come to college with sections of their eyebrows shaven. For hygiene and/or safety reasons long hair must be tied back with a plain bobble/headband during Science, PE, Technology and Art. No other hair accessories may be worn.
