St Mary's win Year 9 cricket tournament

St Mary's won the Year 9 cricket tournament on scoring the most runs after finishing level with Montgomery on points.

In their first game against Montgomery there was an extraordinary finish. After Montgomery scored 56 runs it looked all over for St Mary's when they lost three wickets in the first over but a series of lusty blows from Wallis and Brijeesh meant that they needed fourteen from the last over to win. Six, four then Brijeesh run out - four from three! Two singles from next two balls meant two needed to win from the last ball. Unfortunately they could only manage one and the game was drawn.
The way the other fixtures went St Mary's had to win their final game and score at least 80 runs to win the competition. St Mary's batted first and opener Dixon scored a quickfire twenty five before retiring. Big hitting from the middle order helped them reach a respectable 87 total ( first part achieved ). St Georges were always up with the rate and only some very accurate bowling at the end prevented them from winning. They reached a creditable 79 falling just short.
Well done boys!
