A Fantastic A Level Results Day

From L-R Darcie Lovell, Caitlyn Bell, Mrs Randall, Anna Wignall, Jessica Duffy, Dichhya Sunar, Millie Fielding

St Mary’s Catholic Academy is pleased to report the outstanding achievements by its students in their A levels and Vocational qualifications this summer. Students at St Mary’s Catholic Academy produced another record breaking performance for the Academy’s sixth form with a 100% pass rate in their A Level examinations continuing the trend of excellent results from previous years. Students also excelled at the higher grades with 45% of all grades at A*/A or Distinction* / Distinction, 60% of grades at grade B / Merit or above and 80% of grades above a grade C.

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

Pictured are 6 delighted students who are off to University to start the next stage in their education journey. Caitlyn achieved a distinction* and 2 A’s and will attend Bournemouth University to read Creative Writing, Jessica achieved 4 A*s and will attend Lancaster University to study History, Anna, supported by Mrs Randall, achieved an A and 2 B’s and will attend Hereford College for the blind to take some further A Levels and prepare for university, Dichhya achieved 2A*s and an A and will read Medicine at Leeds University, Darcie achieved 2A*s and an A and won a prestigious scholarship to study Biochemistry at Imperial College London, Millie achieved a B and 2 grade C’s and will attend Leeds University to study Law and Criminology.

A delighted Anna said: “I am continuing my studies at Hereford College for the blind and will be studying a further 2 A levels in Spanish and Psychology, plus independent living, mobility, IT skills, and a course to further improve my braille. I feel like this will improve my independence ready for university further down the line. I want to say a big thank you to everyone at St Mary's for all that they have done to help me achieve all that I have done.” Dichhya was also keen to thank the staff saying, “Next year, I am going to Leeds University to study Medicine. I want to say thank you to all the staff for all their support and help. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to do it.”

Simon Eccles, the Academy’s Headteacher said: “We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”

A delighted Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Jennifer Burrough explained that: “Part of our success is due to the close family feel of our Sixth form. We offer a clear support system which enables every student to receive the targeted help they need. It is this care and pride in all of our students that makes our Sixth form unique.”

Enrolment for students from all Blackpool schools to St Mary’s remains open for applications and can be found through the Academy website at https://www.st-mary.blackpool.sch.uk/index.php/sixth-form/
