Congratulations to St Mary’s GCSE Class of 2021
St Mary’s Catholic Academy is delighted to report the outstanding achievements by its students in their GCSEs this summer.
This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.
Pictured are 6 delighted students who between them achieved an incredible 40 grade 9 and 10 grade 8s and will go on to study at St Mary’s Sixth Form. Maddie Proctor and Charisse Villarino were overjoyed to achieve grade 9s in all of their subjects – an amazing achievement. Maddie will study Computing, Maths and Physics, Charisse will take Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Graphics at the Academy’s Sixth Form. Alfie Kooran achieved 5 grade 9s and 4 grade 8s and will study Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and attend St Mary’s Health Academy in partnership with Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Gil Echejoh gained 1 grade 9, 4 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s and will study ICT, Maths and Physics; Jane Schwab achieved 8 grade 9s and 1 grade 8 and will study Biology , Maths and Spanish and Victoria Sosin gained 8 grade 9s, a Distinction* and 1 grade 8 and will study Spanish, French, Psychology and attend St Mary’s Sports Academy.
Simon Eccles, the Academy’s Headteacher said: “We are immensely proud of the hard work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year with COVID. Our staff have worked so hard to make sure that our students are all able to progress onto further education, apprenticeships and employment. We look forward to seeing many of them join St Mary’s Sixth Form in September. Any Y11 student with 5+ grade 4s or better including English & Maths, from either St Mary’s or any other local secondary schools, who would like to join our thriving Sixth Form can complete an online application on the Academy’s website"
