A Visit from Sir Keir Starmer
St Mary’s politics staff and students were delighted to spend time yesterday with Sir Keir Starmer the leader of the Labour party and Her Majesty’s opposition. Sir Keir visited St Mary’s as part of his listening visit to Blackpool. He spent time discussing the challenges young people face in our town and the policies the Labour party are proposing to address these issues. Students asked him a range of questions about current issues they face around University fees, future job prospects in Blackpool and recent issues in the news around sexual harassment of women. They were also interested to hear Sir Keir’s reflections on this week’s Prime Minister's Question time and his questions about racism in football.
Students were really grateful to Sir Keir for giving up his time to visit them and allow them a unique insight into his experiences in politics.
