Congratulations to our three teams of students who took part in Blackpool's very own computer programming competition "Hackpool". The students were a credit to the Academy with one of the teams winning the entire competition! The prize included a Raspberry Pi computer and a chance to program the lights on Blackpool Tower at next year's illuminations! The winning team members were: Aaron Roberts, Sam Martin, Cameron Eva, Joe Lang, Jake Nelson.
Three Year 12 students following the Level 3 OCR National ICT Course designed and created professional publications for a theatre production in Kendal. The production was Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Sorcerer’ and it took place over 4 days in April.
Regina, Fabi and Amy’s (pictured above) publications were given to the Director who chose one of the pieces of work to use as promotional material for the show. This was then copied and sold over the four nights during the production at Kendal Town Hall.
On Friday 13th July, 40 Year 6 students from St John Vianney and St Kentigern’s were welcomed to an ICT Day at St Mary’s.
Students spent the day researching a famous historical event and then creating a newspaper based around the year of that event. They also wrote and produced a short TV news report using Digital Blue video cameras. Students worked hard together to create high quality work, and a showcase at the end of the day led to prizes being awarded for the best efforts.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by both the staff and students involved.
A group of year 8’s have been coming after school to make a video using digital cameras and editing software. One group made a video about football and the other made a ghost story. All the pupils were involved in filming, editing and acting in the movies. A big thank you to Ms Blacow who helped with the group.
We hope to run the sessions again next year, if you are interested give your name to one of the technicians in the ICT office.
The Gallery will be uploaded soon!
