English Literature will be taken in conjunction with English Language. Students will study a variety of texts ranging from Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, to modern day drama such as Willy Russell’s ‘Blood Brothers’. Students will also study War poetry and prose texts such as Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. The course will help them to develop their ability to critically analyse the writer’s craft and will enhance their appreciation of literature.
Following a GCSE English Literature course will prepare learners to make informed decisions and use language to participate effectively in society and employment. Good qualifications in English are valuable for all employment options, Sixth Form entry requirements and essential for AS A level English courses. Degrees in English often incorporate many areas of study such as Communications, Media, Visual Arts, Journalism, Teaching, PR/Marketing, Speech Therapy and Business and open doorways to numerous career paths.
