The Yr13 Travel & Tourism class were delighted to recently meet with representatives from the local hotel / guest accommodation sector and ‘Visit Blackpool’. The students invited Joe Bullock, (Cluster General Manager for Premier Inn Blackpool), Claire Smith (Number One St Luke’s and President of ‘Stay Blackpool’) and Mandy Tythe-McCallum (Visit Blackpool) in to the Academy to answer questions relating to the class’ current study.

All three guests were exceptionally helpful and provided the students with detailed answers to their investigation;“The changing accommodation patterns of tourists in Blackpool.”

Students and staff appreciated the visitors’ time, knowledge and enthusiasm.

Sixth Form Open Evening 2015

On Thursday evening both Sixth Form students and staff came together to showcase the multitude of both academic and vocational courses on offer for St. Mary’s 2016 enrolment.

Prospective Year 10 and 11 students from across the Fylde jumped at the opportunity to see what our sixth form had to offer, many of whom were particularly impressed with our top notch and top floor bespoke teaching areas, the abundance of information and advice, our very own subject teachers had to share with them.

It was, without doubt, a great chance to get a true feel for what our sixth form has to offer. Moreover, those prospective students and their parents who visited our open evening, most definitely came out of the event more informed about their A Level and Post-16 pathways.

The night was a great success, aided not least by the Notarianni’s ice cream, but also the fantastic showcase of work and information on display on the night, beautifully put together by the students and staff – the sheer effort that had gone into the displays did not go unnoticed, as seen in the photos below…

Looking forward – the Sixth Form team welcome any questions or queries from prospective students thinking about joining us in 2016/2017, either coming from St Mary’s or externally, by contacting Jennifer Burrough on extension 2547 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
