Our year 12 students embarked on an exciting educational visit to the University of Chester this week. The day provided a valuable insight into university life and helped demystify the transition from school to higher education.
The visit began with an informative talk on student life. University staff and current students shared honest accounts of balancing academic studies with social activities, societies, and independent living. Our pupils were particularly engaged by stories of freshers’ week, campus sports teams, and the strong sense of community at Chester.
Following this, students enjoyed a guided tour of the university campus. They explored the beautiful green spaces and historic buildings, showcasing both the academic and social facilities available.
A dedicated session on student finance proved especially useful. Advisors clearly explained tuition fees, maintenance loans, scholarships, and budgeting tips, helping students understand the financial realities of university and the support available.
After the university activities, the group headed into Chester city centre, nestled within the ancient Roman walls. Students enjoyed a stroll through the historic streets and were fascinated by the iconic Eastgate Clock, a striking landmark and the second-most-photographed clock in the world (after Big Ben). The vibrant mix of Roman history, medieval architecture, and modern shops offered a perfect backdrop to reflect on the day. Our students left feeling confident and motivated about pursuing their higher education.
