Art with a Purpose: The Earth Day Whale

A group of secondary school students in black blazers, white shirts, and blue ties posing proudly next to their large Earth Day sculpture. Standing in a bright school corridor, they surround a tall whale sculpture cleverly crafted entirely from clear, recycled plastic bottles. In the centre, a student sits on the floor holding a cardboard sign that reads "EARTH DAY 2024" made out of colourful, repurposed plastic bottle caps.

In anticipation of Earth Day, our dedicated STEM Club ambassadors—Matilda, Sam, Arthur, Oscar, Jakub, and Anna—alongside their helpful peers Jack, Megan, and Xavier, worked tirelessly on a large-scale installation.

To highlight the global crisis of plastic pollution, the team collected over 200 discarded plastic bottles from around the Academy. These reclaimed materials have been transformed into a striking sculpture of a whale. This impressive piece of art serves as a visual reminder of the impact plastic waste has on our oceans and marine life.
